The prayer shawl is similar to the article of clothing described in the story of Mark 5:25-29 and Numbers 15:37-38. From these verses we learn of the importance of the tassels of this garment and that the tassels are referred to as the “wings” of the garment. Psalm 91 teaches that there is refuge under His wings and Malachi 4:2 shows us that one day a Messiah would come and that there would be healing in the wings (in the tassels, in the hem) of His garment. With this cultural background we can now understand why the Gospel writers focus in on the woman with the issue of blood touching the hem of His garment.
The verses found on the corners of the prayer shawl are: Isaiah 53:5, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Malachi 4:2 and Matthew 14:36.
The prayer shawl is approximately 70″ x 21″ and it comes in a 10 1/4″ x 11 1/2″ carrying pouch.
